A-09 HOW DO THE MOVIES RELATE TO THE ANIME/MANGA SERIES?

The movies have characters and certain backgrounds based on the anime/manga series (anime, actually, but the anime is based on the manga), but should considered to be an alternate universe, since the movies are usually inconsistent with the timeline of the anime/manga. The DBZ movies are also usually just a 1 1/2 hour version of the same general Dragon Ball Z formula of new villain(s) who first show up more powerful than Goku and the gang, but eventually gets defeated.
